McDonald’s rolling out new chicken nugget recipe

McNuggets are becoming McHealthier.

McDonald’s is rolling out a new chicken nugget recipe menu this summer that replaces the artificial preservatives with ingredients such as lemon juice solids and rice starch.

“These new chicken McNuggets are made with a simpler recipe that parents can feel good about while keeping the same great taste they know and love,” McDonald’s spokeswoman Becca Hary told Crain’s Business Chicago.

The bite-sized nuggets, introduced in 1979, have a long list of 32 ingredients, including the oil in which they are fried.

The chain has already rolled out the new McNuggets at 140 of its eateries in Washington and Oregon — and they’ll come to New York, and nationwide, in August.

This is McDonald’s, and other fast-food chains, latest effort to revamp their menu to make it healthier.

In 2015, it promoted the fresh eggs used to make the McMuffin breakfast sandwiches instead of a frozen egg patty — and later committed to only serving cage-free eggs by 2025.

Other ingredient swaps include changing out the margarine for real butter and ditching six artificial ingredients used to prepare the grilled chicken.
