WASHINGTON – Her poll numbers may have slumped, but Hillary Clinton pledged victory Sunday in the Democratic nomination.
“I’m not going to lose,” Clinton told the Rev. Al Sharpton in an interview that aired Sunday on MSNBC’s “Politics Nation.”
“I’m going to really work as hard as I can to make the case first in the Iowa caucus and then in the New Hampshire primary.”
Sharpton had asked about her poll numbers in early states that have sagged considerably since the summer. Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders is now beating her in New Hampshire by nine points (48-39 percent), while she is ahead in Iowa by 11 points (47-36 percent), according to new NBC/Wall Street Journal polling out Sunday.
The former Secretary of State didn’t criticize the Democratic contenders, but saved her jabs for the GOP field.
“The worst thing that could happen to our country, in my opinion, is for Republicans to rip away that progress [under President Obama] and do a big U-turn back to trickle-down economics,” Clinton said.
Asked about Donald Trump, Clinton shook her head. “He has been stoking prejudice and paranoia. He’s been really appealing to the worst instincts of human nature. I think it’s dangerous. His demagoguery is no longer amusing.”
The GOP front-runner has called Clinton “shrill” and the worst Secretary State of all time. Clinton said she wears the attacks from Republicans as a “badge of respect.”
“They know that I will never give in to their very poor ideas about the economy or anything else,” Clinton said.
