The owner of a Manhattan dive bar is taking shots at disappointed online reviewers — because he says people should know what they’re getting into when they step into his raucous gin joint.
The latest salvo came after a Canadian woman who identifies herself as Megan B. wrote a dismal Yelp review for The Iron Horse, a Cliff Street watering hole that sells $2 beers and is advertised as a loud, dive bar.
“Wouldn’t recommend this to eat or for a quiet drink,” she wrote, according to Eater. “I met some friends here at 3 pm in the afternoon and the music was so loud we couldn’t hear each other.”
She continued: “The service was terrible just to get a drink a at the bar. The food was also terrible.”
The following day, owner Zbigniew Szymczyk, thanked her for the visit — and preceded to write a five-paragraph smackdown.
“I read other reviews you posted on Yelp for places you have visited. It seems you like quiet coffee shops and fancy food, none of which we have ever advertised to provide,” he wrote.
“We are primarily a loud, party type bar atmosphere, serving a mean burger, hot wings, and similar pub fare at RIDICULOUSLY low prices for Lower Manhattan,” he wrote.
He conceded that their food wasn’t the main reason people came out to The Iron Horse, saying, “We have 4 stars on Yelp, but it’s not because our food will knock your socks off.
The 4 stars are there because most of our customers come in looking for a fun time and to get away from the mundane of the every day.”
And then Szymczyk ended his response with his own rating for her.
“I give you 1 star as you are terrible at finding bars and restaurants that suit your tastes,” he said. “I’ll give you more stars if you come back and have a drink with me.”
The bar owner frequently responds to negative customer reviews — telling off a reviewer who gave the pub one-star in July after watching a woman lick whipped cream off her boyfriend’s chest.
“Let me guess, you also went to McDonalds once, and gave them a 1 star review cause they didn’t serve any poached eggs over lox and hollandaise sauce for breakfast?”
