New Yorkers who’ve had it with the hot weather should be glad they’re not in Iran — where the heat index skyrocketed to 165 degrees over the weekend.
“That was one of the most incredible temperature observations I have ever seen, and it is one of the most extreme readings ever in the world,” said AccuWeather meteorologist Anthony Saglia after temperatures in Iran topped 114.8 degrees on Friday.
The country’s incredible heat index, which includes factors such as humidity, was just 7 degrees shy of the highest ever recorded, officials said.
It’s a far cry from what residents in the Big Apple will be experiencing through the early part of this week, as temperatures are expected to run in the upper 80s and low 90s.
The heat will dissipate by mid-week, and things should start cooling off by Wednesday. Temperatures are then expected to drop into the 70s by the weekend.
“The humidity will lower a little Tuesday afternoon, but Wednesday will be much more comfortable with even lower humidity,” said AccuWeather meteorologist Andy Mussoline. “The pattern will shift Thursday and Friday as a pair of storms send cool, cloudy and wet weather into the region.”
