Travel agency fined for stranding tourists

A Staten Island travel agency must pay a $25,000 fine and get out of the travel business for ripping off Balkan tourists.

Cuka Tours billed Eastern European travelers round-trip air fares to Albania, Montenegro, Macedonia, and Kosovo, but only booked one-way tickets, leaving their customers stranded, according to state Attorney General Eric Schneiderman.

The company refused to grant refunds or arrange alternative plans for abandoned travelers.

Schneiderman, who announced the settlement Saturday, called the company’s actions “shameless.” The agency was operated by Qerem and Suzana Cukoviq.
