The Mets may not be playing in October, but Jacob deGrom picked up some hardware on Monday when he was named the Sporting News’ rookie of the year.
DeGrom led all rookies with a 2.69 ERA and 144 strikeouts and tied for wins with nine. He was also named the rookie of the month for July and September.
DeGrom had four double digit strikeout performances including eight straight to start one game, tying a modern day record.With Matt Harvey out for the entire season, deGrom gave Mets fans something to look forward to. He finished 9-6 in 22 starts.
