Jets GM sticks with hard stance as Wilkerson plans return

Muhammad Wilkerson plans on showing up for next week’s mandatory Jets minicamp, a person familiar with his thinking told The Post on Wednesday night.

Wilkerson, who has stayed away from the club’s voluntary organized team activities, has been waiting for what seems an eternity to him on a new multi-year extension. The disgruntled defensive lineman is due to make $6.9 million in the final year of his contract and paid particular attention Tuesday on Twitter to defensive end Cameron Jordan signing a five-year, $60 million deal with $33.6 million guaranteed by the Saints.

“Yup I see how this works,” Wilkerson tweeted.

Wilkerson reportedly is seeking a deal in the neighborhood of $40 million guaranteed.

Nevertheless, it doesn’t sound as if he will be getting a contract extension from the Jets anytime soon — or maybe even at all.

New Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan told The Post on Wednesday night the team isn’t in any hurry to extend Wilkerson’s deal. Maccagnan also stressed — repeatedly — that Wilkerson is “under contract.”

“It’s going to be a process,” Maccagnan said at WFAN’s charity softball benefit for the NYPD at Yankee Stadium. “We’re just going to see. I don’t really want to put a timeline on anything. I’m just going to see how this plays out in the near future.

“I would hope [to get an extension done]” he added, “at some point in time.”

Maccagnan admitted Jordan’s deal “reset the market” for defensive linemen drafted in 2011 not named J.J Watt, but that appears to be a market the Jets are reluctant to enter — especially considering how stocked they are in the defensive interior.

“Each player is kind of different in how you slot or grade them,” Maccagnan said when asked if Wilkerson could expect a deal similar to Jordan’s if the Jets extended him.

Maccagnan, meanwhile, gave a surprisingly upbeat assessment of Geno Smith, praising the embattled quarterback for his performance so far in the offseason.

“He’s had a good offseason and done some good things, and we’ll see how things progress,” Maccagnan said. “I like his overall play. At the end of the day, I think he’s picked up the offense fairly well and had some good days of practice and made some good throws. … He’s making progress, so we’ll see. We’re still in shorts and T-shirts, and there’s a lot more football that needs to be played.”
