Support for Netanyahu on the rise among Americans: poll

Benjamin Netanyahu’s clash with President Obama isn’t hurting him with one demographic: the American public.

Netanyahu is viewed favorably by 45 percent of US residents, according to a Gallup poll released Monday.

It’s a level of support he hasn’t achieved in 15 years — and up from just 35 percent in 2012.

The uptick comes with little change in his disapproval rating, which has consistently hovered between 20 and 24 percent.

The poll found a partisan gap in how Americans view Netanyahu, with 61 percent of Republicans, but just 31 percent of Democrats, giving him a positive grade.

The Democratic support wasn’t much different than it was in 2012.

“The dust-up with the White House may have won Netanyahu more independent and Republican admirers, while at the same time not costing him Democratic support,” Andrew Dugan wrote in the Gallup analysis of the poll

President Obama’s approval rating is 47 percent positive, but 48 negative, according to Gallup.
