Cretaceous Park?
A 100 million-year-old predatory cockroach that once crept and crawled among the dinosaurs has been found perfectly preserved in amber.
The prehistoric specimen was one of dozens of fossilized insects found at a mine in Noije Bum, Myanmar, and is believed to be from the early Cretaceous period, according to New Scientist.
Experts from the Geological Institute in Bratislava, Slovakia, and the State Museum of Natural History in Stuttgart, Germany, examined the bug and said its long neck gave it ample room to rotate its head freely.
The cockroach’s unusually long legs also suggest that it was an avid predator that spent most of its time on the hunt for food. The praying mantis-like insect is called Manipulator modificaputis.
