Indicted state Sen. John Sampson is still an alleged liar — but he’s no longÂer an alleged thief.
Brooklyn federal Judge Dora Irizarry on Friday cut the embattled pol a break by dismissing on a technicality charges that he stole $440,000 from housing escrow accounts and used part of it to help fund a failed 2005 bid to become Brooklyn district attorney.
Irizarry dismissed two counts of embezzlement that Sampson (D-Brooklyn) faced from a May 2013 indictment because a five-year statute of limitations had expired. The thefts allegedly happened in 1998 and 2002 while he worked as a court-appointed referee in foreclosure proceedings.
Sampson still faces eight counts of obstruction of justice, witness tampering and making false statements to the FBI.
Sampson remained stone-faced in court during Friday’s proceeding.
Both he and his lawyers declined to comment.
Despite being under indictment, Sampson won September’s Democratic primary and is seeking re-election Nov. 4.
