Trump surges in new poll while Hillary sinks

WASHINGTON — Donald Trump’s presidential campaign is soaring as high as his towers, with new polls showing the billionaire real-estate mogul holding sizable leads over his GOP opponents.

A St. Pete Polls survey found Trump in first place among Republican voters in Florida at 26 percent, topping his two Sunshine State presidential rivals on their home turf.

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush was second at 20 percent, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker third at 12 percent, and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio lagged at 10 percent.

A separate Quinnipiac Poll Thursday showed Trump’s lead growing nationally.

He led the crowded Republican field with 20 percent — the largest share of any GOPer in seven surveys conducted by Quinnipiac over two years.

Walker (13 percent) and Bush (10 percent) followed.

Hillary Rodham Clinton, meanwhile, was sinking.

Her favorability rating was her worst ever — 41 percent favorable versus 51 percent unfavorable in the Quinnipiac Poll.

In a head-to-head matchup among all voters, however, Clinton beat Trump, 48-36 percent. But she trailed Bush, 44-41, a sharp turn from May, when she handily topped him, 47-37.

Trump appeared in Scotland Thursday at his golf course in Turnberry, where he overshadowed the Women’s British Open.

“The world has asked me to be here,” said Trump, who boasted he that would get along famously with Russian President Vladimir Putin and that he would make the US military “so strong that nobody would mess with us.”

The fresh Trump surge gave pause to GOP rivals hoping his political ambitions would be dashed after he publicly questioned the heroism Sen. John McCain, a lauded Vietnam War POW.

“He’s not going away,” said Steve Duprey, a Republican National Committee member.

A Bloomberg focus group with New Hampshire voters shed light on Trump’s appeal: his brashness, big bucks and lack of political experience are all assets.

“He’s like one of us. He may be a millionaire, which separates him from everybody else, but besides the money issue, he’s still in tune with what everybody is wanting,” one female supporter said.
