Woman killed by taxi despite bystanders who lifted cab off

A woman was fatally run over by a taxi on the Upper East Side — despite the heroic efforts of good Samaritans who hoisted the cab off of her, cops and witnesses said.

The 58-year-old pedestrian was crossing East 79th Street at Madison Avenue just before 2 p.m., Friday, when she was leveled by a yellow cab SUV turning onto East 79th, authorities said.

Nearly two dozen bystanders flipped the cab onto its side, and the woman was rushed to Lenox Hill Hospital, but she was pronounced dead on arrival, according to police.

Cops did not immediately release the woman’s identity.

It was not immediately clear whether there was any criminality and the investigation is ongoing, authorities said.
