Brooklyn team in the fray when minor league football kicks off

Ready or not, here come the Brooklyn Bolts.

A minor league pro football league, whose aim is to develop NFL-quality players, is expected to announce its formation this week with four teams, including the borough-based Bolts.

The league, to be called the FXFL, will kick off Oct. 8 with a six-game schedule.

The three other teams are the Boston Brawlers, Omaha Mammoths and the Florida Black Tips.

The Bolts will play home games at Coney Island’s MCU Park, where the Brooklyn Cyclones are based, a source familiar with the situation said.

The FXFL is in talks with SNY, New York’s regional sports network, about airing Bolts games.

It also hopes the first season title game will be aired on the NFL Network, the source said.

Plans are to sign recent college grads and NFL players cut during training camp, which would provide a way to keep them game ready if called to join the NFL.

Under current plans, FXFL players will earn about $1,000 a game.

While the NFL has not officially sanctioned the league, Commissioner Roger Goodell is aware of the development and is generally supportive, the source said.
