Times art critic gets talking-to after cribbing from Wikipedia

The New York Times has meted out an undisclosed reprimand to its art critic Carol Vogel for plagiarizing a paragraph from Wikipedia — but it appears unlikely the paper will take any action regarding several other allegations of borrowing tossed Vogel’s way.

The reprimand concerns a July 24 column she wrote about an upcoming exhibit of Italian painter Piero di Cosimo titled, “A Renaissance Master Finally Gets a Showcase.”

Editors at the Times learned of the problem from a posting on Mediabistro’s FishbowlNY website.

A spokeswoman said, “Carol’s editors have dealt with her on this issue. “

ArtNews said it found at least four other instances of potential copying, but it appears the Times has dismissed those allegations.

Unless further instances crop up, it appears the Times is not taking any other action.
