Generous donations continued to pour in to the Peter Figoski Scholarship Fund — launched by the New York Post and the New York City Police Foundation to ensure the higher education of the slain cop’s four daughters.
The fund surpassed $150,000 yesterday as big bankers, elected officials, and everyday joes all chipped in sums both large and small.
Even a famous rocker opened his wallet — but wished to remain anonymous so the spotlight remained on the cause.
Vikram Pandit, the CEO of Citigroup bank, authorized a $15,000 contribution yesterday.
“Making sure his daughters receive the education he would have provided is the least we can do,” Pandit said.
And Councilwoman Letitia James (D-Brooklyn), who will contribute, hailed Figoski for patrolling the streets although he could have retired.
“He decided to stay on the job because he believed in education and he wanted to make more money to build a college scholarship for his daughters,” James said.
Figoski, killed Monday morning while responding to a botched robbery, left behind Christine, 20, at SUNY Oneonta; Caitlyn, 18, at SUNY Plattsburgh; and Caroline, 16, and Corrine, 14, high school students in West Babylon, LI.
Donations to the Peter Figoski Scholarship Fund are tax-deductible and can be made by mailing checks to the charity’s addresses. Credit and debit card donations can be made at nycpolicefoundation.org.
Both mail and online donations should be clearly marked for the Peter Figoski Scholarship Fund.
Politicians who represent the district in Cypress Hills, Brooklyn, where Figoski fell also promoted the fund.
“With two daughters currently enrolled in college and two nearing the end of high school, this scholarship fund will go a long way,” said state Sen. Martin Dilan, who along with his son, Councilman Erik Dilan, pledged contributions.
