Nets GM still eyes Howard after signing Teletovic, Evans

Even before the Nets agreed to re-sign Deron Williams early Tuesday night, team executives had a busy day, agreeing to a pair of free-agent acquisitions all while keeping an eye on the biggest prize available — Dwight Howard.

In the event they fall out of the Howard sweepstakes, the Nets already have identified a worthy consolation prize in Bucks power forward Ersan Ilyasova.

When the Nets agreed to a trade with the Hawks for six-time All-Star Joe Johnson on Monday, it was widely assumed it precluded them from the never-ending Howard sweepstakes moving forward. But less than 24 hours later, that changed when new Magic general manager Rob Hennigan reached out to Nets counterpart Billy King and re-opened trade discussions.

“Let’s just see where this goes,” said one person close to the situation, stressing there was nothing imminent.

The Nets were far from the only team speaking to the Magic. The Lakers, Rockets and possibly other teams have spoken to Orlando about Howard. Sources maintained the Magic’s top target is Lakers center Andrew Bynum, but Howard has continued to insist he only is interested in signing long-term with the Nets, who likely would have to find a third team to help them facilitate a deal with Orlando.

As they continue to work on a deal for Howard — which would include signing-and-trading Brook Lopez and Kris Humphries, among others, plus MarShon Brooks and draft picks — the Nets made sure to keep improving their roster, encouraging Williams to agree to become the face of the franchise as it moves to Brooklyn and the brand new Barclays Center this fall.

The Nets completed the long-rumored signing of Bosnian power forward Mirza Teletovic before later agreeing to a sign-and-trade for Clippers power forward Reggie Evans.

Teletovic, a 6-foot-9, 250-pounder with 3-point shooting range, agreed to a three-year deal with the Nets for the full mid-level exception, which starts at $5 million this season. Teletovic impressed last season for Caja Laboral in the Spanish league, where he averaged 15.8 points and 6.3 rebounds in 41 games.

Evans agreed to a three-year deal for about $5 million with the Nets, who used one of their two trade exceptions to absorb his contract. The Nets sent a future second-round pick to the Clippers for the rugged power forward, who averaged 1.9 points and 4.8 rebounds in 56 games last season.

“Billy has been pursuing him for a while and is very familiar with him,” said one source familiar with the negotiations.

If the Nets do turn away from the Howard sweepstakes, they will turn their attention to Ilyasova, as The Post’s Peter Vecsey reported yesterday. Ilyasova, 25, averaged 13.0 points and 8.8 rebounds, shooting 49.7 percent from the field and 45.5 percent from 3-point range during a career season in 2011-12.
