MONTVALE, N.J. — Numerous charges have been filed against a New York man who allegedly struck a police officer with his sport utility vehicle while fleeing from a Garden State Parkway service area in northern New Jersey.
Authorities say 28-year-old Chad Robinson of Caledonia then led officers on a chase along the highway, throwing several bags of heroin out his window before finally stopping on a shoulder in Woodcliff Lake.
Montvale police say Robinson’s SUV was parked at the Montvale Service Area when officer Ryan Van Dalinda approached him around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday. Robinson then allegedly accelerated, hitting Van Dalinda in the leg.
The officer then reached into the car after seeing what he believed to be bags of heroin, and was struck in the arm as Robinson drove away. Authorities say the officer was “banged up a little and sore,” but escaped serious injury.
Robinson was charged with aggravated assault of a police officer, eluding and numerous drug offenses.
