Judge frees ’89 slay con

Freshly freed after 23 years in jail, all William Lopez wanted was a plate of veal parmesan and a glass of wine.

Lopez had his first taste of freedom yesterday after a seething federal judge overturned his 1989 conviction for a Brooklyn crackhouse killing.

Embattled Brooklyn District Attorney Charles Hynes vowed yesterday to appeal and even retry the case despite the reversal.

Brooklyn federal Judge Nicholas Garaufis ripped Hynes’ office as he freed Lopez, and said he “should be released with the state’s apology.”

Critics have long charged that Lopez’s conviction was handled sloppily and that his guilt was in serious doubt.

The reversal of the conviction comes as Hynes, a six-term incumbent, fights a tough re-election campaign.
