Horror crash: Woman loses leg crossing street in Brooklyn

Two good-Samaritan passers-by in Army uniforms helped save a woman whose leg was severed after she was hit by a car in Brooklyn yesterday.

The 30-year-old victim was crossing the street near the intersection of Pennsylvania and Livonia avenues in East New York when she was hit by a black Toyota Prius at 1:35 p.m., authorities said.

The car pinned her between two poles and severed her left leg, said witness Hussein Ali, 26.

“Her whole leg was gone. She was screaming, ‘Oh, my God! Oh, my God! My leg!’ ” Ali said.

“I was looking for something to tie around her leg, then two guys in US Army uniforms came with a belt and tied it around her leg.”

Ali, the owner of Pennsylvania Grill & Deli, said the victim was bleeding heavily.

He ran out to the scene after finding the woman’s pink Ugg boots lying outside his store.

“Her shoes flew all the way to my door,” he said.

Ali found the victim lying on the sidewalk pinned against a pole supporting the No. 3 subway’s elevated tracks,

The Prius’ driver told Ali that he tried to avoid another vehicle as it was making a left turn when he struck the woman.

“He was shocked, just looking down at the ground,” Ali said.

The woman was rushed to Brookdale Hospital, where police said she was listed in stable condition.

It was unclear who the two good Samaritans were. They stayed at the scene until paramedics arrived.

Police did not suspect any criminality on the part of the driver, who remained at the scene.
