HOOPS: Torn plantar fascia sidelines Gasol

Pau Gasol has been diagnosed with a tear of the plantar fascia of his right foot a day after he said he felt a pop in the foot during the Lakers’ victory over the Nets.The team said Gasol will be reexamined in Los Angeles today.

NBA commissioner David Stern said the Seattle group, which recently reached an agreement to purchase the Sacramento Kings, has filed for relocation with the league. Stern added he thinks the NBA is on track to begin testing its players for human growth hormone, perhaps next season.

ETC.: Helton charged with drunk driving

Rockies first baseman Todd Helton was arrested about 2:30 a.m. yesterday in the Denver suburb of Thornton and charged with drunken and careless driving.

Michael Weiner has relinquished his duties as general counsel of the Major League Baseball Players Association. He will remain as executive director while being treated for a brain tumor. Dave Prouty has been promoted to the union’s general counsel.

Blue Jackets forward Brandon Dubinsky was fined $10,000, the maximum allowed under the new NHL collective bargaining agreement, for boarding Kings defenseman Rob Scuderi in Columbus’ 4-2 loss on Tuesday.

The Devils acquired center Andrei Loktionov from the Kings in exchange for their fifth-round selection in the 2013 NHL Draft.
