NFL: Goodell is the $30 million man

Commissioner Roger Goodell was paid $29.49 million by NFL owners in 2011, nearly triple his compensation from the previous year. According to the league’s most recent tax return, most of Goodell’s pay comes in the form of a $22.3 million bonus. His base pay was $3.1 million.

The Colts announced they would not re-sign Dwight Freeney or Austin Collie. Both will become unrestricted free agents.

The Packers released defensive back Charles Woodson with two years left on his contract, saving $10 million in cap space. … The Broncos plan to put the franchise tag on All Pro left tackle Ryan Clady.

Golf: Jacobson, Bae share second-round lead

In Los Angeles, Fredrik Jacobson birdied the two toughest holes on his way to a 6-under 65 and a share of the lead with Sang-Moon Bae going into the weekend at the Northern Trust Open.

Jacobson and Bae were at 9-under 133, one shot ahead of John Merrick (66) and John Rollins (65). Phil Mickelson is five strokes off the lead after shooting a 4-under 67.

In Naples, Fla., Bernhard Langer finished with a 10-under 62 to take a three-stroke in the Champions Tour’s ACE Group Classic. … In Canberra, Australia, Colombia’s Mariajo Uribe shot a 6-under 67 to take a one-stroke lead over 15-year-old amateur star Lydia Ko and South Korea’s Jiyai Shin after the second round of the LPGA Tour’s season-opening Women’s Australian Open.

ETC.: American Ligety makes ski history

Winning the giant slalom in Schmadling, Austria, made American Ted Ligety the first man in 45 years to win three gold medals at a skiing world championships. Jean-Claude Killy of France took home four golds in 1968.

In Providence, Matt Sullivan scored a career-high 27 points, including the game-winning 3-pointer with 10 seconds remaining, as Brown rallied from an 11-point halftime deficit to beat Columbia 58-55.

In Cincinnati, Otto Porter Jr. scored 16 points while playing in foul trouble, and No. 15 Georgetown wasted a 12-point lead in the second half before rallying to beat the Bearcats, 62-55, for its seventh straight win.
