‘American’ top 40 head to Vegas

Now we’re finally getting down to business.

American Idol” narrowed the field down to its top 40 semi-finalists Thursday night — including two contestants from New York.

Melinda Ademi, 19, from Yonkers and Tenna Torres, 28, from Queens were among the semi-finalists who’ll move on to the next round with on-stage performances at The Mirage casino in Las Vegas.

They’ll be joined by Chris Watson, 24, from Fords, NJ.

The 40 semi-finalists (20 women, 20 men) will perform on “Idol” the next two weeks, with the women singing on Feb. 20 and 27 and the men crooning on Feb. 21 and 28.

Each night, “Idol” judges Randy Jackson, Nicki Minaj, Keith Urban and Mariah Carey will choose five semi-finalists to stay on the show — while booting another five each night.

When all is said and done, “Idol” will be left with 20 finalists, at which point viewers will finally get their chance to vote for their favorites.

Ratings for “American Idol” have dropped this season — Thursday night’s show was down to 12.3 million viewers — but the numbers tend to trend upward once the semi-final and final rounds kick in.
