It was very mellow today at the Elizabeth and James show, which came as a relief after last night’s madness at Betsey Johnson.
Upon walking into a gallery in the West Village, I was greeted by none other than Mary Kate and Ashley themselves. The twins sat among a small group of other guests and watched their Spring showcase — both looking effortlessly beautiful, I might add.
The line, just as effortless as Mary Kate and Ashley, was inspired by sunsets around the world, displaying innovative and modern ready-to-wear pieces. There were no heels to be found, but instead metallic sandals adorned feet. I am not the biggest fan of open-toed shoes, but these were really very elegant.
The androgynous pieces featured mainly black, white, and other neutrals, but also showcased a fantastic use of oranges and purples. This spring line seemed all about the jackets, and for the record, I want all of them.
Have you ever played that game where you choose the dream closet of your fashion icon? Well I have, and my number one has always been Mary Kate’s — or Ashley’s really — as I have been a fan of the Olsens’ style for many years now. Today was kind of like getting a glimpse into their closets. I got a chance to see their talent up close and personal, and I’m so happy that I did.
