Will Ferrell talks meeting ‘sweaty’ Rob Ford

In the lead up to the release of “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues,” Will Ferrell has spent more than his fair share of time in the guise of the movie’s beloved main character, Ron Burgundy. But on Monday, he actually appeared as himself to talk with David Letterman on “The Late Show.”

Between chatter about the movie and accidentally turning down dinner with Harrison Ford, Ferrell described his encounter with Toronto’s infamous crack-smocking mayor, Rob Ford.

The meeting came before Ford admitted to his drug use when Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis made a stop at the Hockey Hall of Fame to promote “The Campaign.”

And it was there that the actor found out just how unenthusiastic Canada’s biggest city was for its mayor.

“We step up to the mic, we’re supposed to say a few words, and I say, ‘How about a big round of applause for your mayor, Rob Ford.’” Ferrell said. “It was literally…not even a smattering of applause, just two people.”

“It was just so silent, that I actually had to comment on it,” he continued. “So I said, ‘Mr. Mayor, that’s a horrible ovation,’ and the press core burst out laughing. And he was just laughing. He didn’t care. Just sweaty.”

“Anchorman 2” arrives in theaters on Friday, and based on this story, Ford won’t be making a cameo.
