Los Angeles cops are on high alert for tonight’s Grammys, as rogue former officer and accused triple-murderer Christopher Dorner remains still on the loose — with a $1 million reward posted for his capture.
Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa announced an LA-record seven-digit bounty is being offered for any information that leads to Dorner’s arrest and conviction.
“We will not tolerate this reign of terror that has robbed us of the peace of mind that residents of Southern California deserve,” Villaraigosa said. “We will not tolerate this murderer remaining at large.”
Dorner hasn’t been spotted since Thursday morning, when he allegedly killed an officer in suburban Riverside, his third slaying in less than a week.
The LAPD — although already spread thin throughout Southern California looking for Dorner — has called in additional officers from their days off to take a visible presence at tonight’s Grammys at the Staples Center, according to CBS News.
In a rambling manifesto he left behind before embarking on his rampage, Dorner wrote,“I assure you that Incident Command Posts will be target-rich environments,” referring to the police term for mobile headquarters that cops set up at special events such as the Grammys.
“I’ve spoken with people [at the LAPD],” said CBS reporter John Miller, a onetime aide to former LAPD chief William Bratton.
The police “have an anxiety level higher than we’ve ever seen it. You’re going to have a major police presence [at the Grammys].
“One problem is, can they get enough cops to police the Grammys, when they have had everyone out deployed on this?”
Grammy producers and LA cops have declined comment on their Grammys plans.
But uniformed cops and private security appeared to be out in force — in larger numbers that in past years — in the streets around tonight’s awards show.
Dorner’s burning truck was found Thursday in the Big Bear mountains east of LA, but the suspected killer has so far evaded a massive manhunt near that ski resort — if he was even there. The hunt for him as now spread to at least three states.
Dorner is accused to killing the daughter of a retired LAPD captain and her boyfriend a week ago tonight.
Dorner also allegedly killed a Riverside officer Thursday morning.
