‘Walking Dead’ fans spur record

Death becomes it.

AMC’s“The Walking Dead” returned to a series record 12.3 million viewers Sunday night — staggering numbers for a cable series.

The first episode of the latest flight of shows in the gory zombie apocalypse drama also set a series record in adults 18-49 (7.7 million viewers) and eclipsed its previous viewership record by 1.5 sets of million eyeballs. It was also up 51 percent in viewers over the premiere of last season’s Part 2.

“The Walking Dead” added another 4.3 million viewers in repeats airing at 11 p.m., midnight and 2 a.m.

In addition, its companion show, the Chris Hardwick-hosted “Talking Dead,” reeled in 4.1 million viewers from 10 to 11 p.m.

Sunday night’s “Walking Dead” was the first new episode to air since early December.
