Quinn-tessential abuse

The Issue: City Council Speaker Christine Quinn’s comments on companies whose policies she dislikes.

Mayoral hopeful and City Council Speaker Christine Quinn threatens to use “every level of government” to punish a company for having the audacity to exercise its right to fire employees who happen to be unionized (“Quinn’s Wicked Power Politics,” Michael Goodwin, Feb. 10).

Quinn also threatened Chick-fil-A because one of its executives doesn’t share her views on gay marriage.

Who will this thug threaten next as she craves more power — you and your little dog, too?M. Kalinowski

Quinn’s posturing demonstrates what is wrong with modern government. The concept of government’s existing to defend the rights and freedoms of the people based on objective jurisprudence has been replaced with pursuits of appeasement of special interests and submissive bowing to their desires, regardless of whether following such pursuits is in the best interests of the common greater good.
