Artist offers recreation of McDonald’s cup for $9,000 at The Armory Show

You won’t find this soda on the dollar menu.

A Guatemalan artist wants $9,000 for a sculpture of a McDonald’s soda cup — a painstakingly detailed piece of art that’s up for grabs at this year’s Armory Show.

The contemporary art is emblazoned with the golden arches — set against bright red flowers — and comes enclosed in a fancy plastic case.

Art fans yesterday took to social media to express excitement — and bewilderment. “Elegantly painted McDonald’s cup can be yours for 9,000!” tweeted John Del Signore, who runs the blog Gothamist.

The Armory Show is an international contemporary-art fair featuring abstract paintings, pop art and modern sculptures.

The fair runs through Sunday at Piers 92 and 94 on the Hudson River and 55th Street.

The McDonald’s cup was created by Dario Escobar and was featured in the Brazilian gallery “Baró Galeria.”
