NYC pharmacy will cure your hangover

It’s almost New Year’s Eve. Do you know where your hangover cure is?

A young New York pharmacist, Stanley George, is creating buzz with a namesake pharmacy on the Lower East Side that fills prescriptions and also offers a wellness bar with his trademarked “Drinks & Drugs” menu.

George worked at big pharmacies, including Duane Reade, for nearly two decades before launching Stanley’s Pharmacy at 31 Ludlow St.

The pharmacy, which he self-funded with $120,000, has grossed upward of $150,000 since opening in late July.

George estimates 300 percent year-over-year growth. Approximately 70 percent of his sales are in scripts, and 30 percent come via the wellness bar and over-the-counter remedies.

His idea is to offer old-fashioned services that recall the days when customers knew pharmacists by name, in addition to filling modern prescriptions.

He launched a custom tea line in December that has 12 blends for targeted ailments, including hangovers, sore throats and stomachaches.

The pharmacy also makes custom soda syrups in-house, including mint, basil, orange, mojito and ginger ale, with fresh fruits and herbs, and is selling kombucha on tap and coconut water from Thailand.

He plans to sell these wholesale to bars and hotels.

George is tapping into the cool Lower East Side crowd and established local clientele, and he has already had dozens of international businesses coming to look at his business model.

He’ll be open New Year’s day to service New York City’s hangovers.
