Why Twitter-bug Katie Couric can’t sleep at night

What’s keeping Katie Couric up all night tweeting for company?

“Ugh! It’s 4 am! Woke up at 2:30 and can’t get back to sleep! Anyone with me out there? #sofrustrating” read a message early yesterday morning on Couric’s twitter account — usually reserved for plugging upcoming shows and pet causes.

Five hours later, she tweeted: “I took a quarter of an Ambien and fell back to sleep! Thanks to all the night owls for keeping me company! #notexactlyrefreshed.”

It’s not the first time Couric, 56, has taken to the social media network to kill some sleepless hours.

“She’s experienced insomnia off and on for the last year or so,”said a source. “From time to time when she’s up in the middle of the night, she goes on Twitter.”

Sleeplessness is a common side effect of menopause, which Couric has told viewers she began last year.

“Funny that I’m doing a show on this,” she tweeted. The sleep show is set to air in early May, said a spokesman,

“She got some ideas from the show,” the spokesman said.
