A-Rod on hand for Yankees opener

WEST POINT — Add a Yankee Stadium appearance by Alex Rodriguez to tomorrow’s Opening Day festivities.

According to general manager Brian Cashman, Rodriguez will be on hand when the Yankees host the Red Sox.

It will be the first time Rodriguez has been around the club since Game 4 of last year’s ALCS in Detroit, when the Yankees were swept by the Tigers.

Since then, Rodriguez has undergone hip surgery and been linked to a performance-enhancing drugs investigation involving the Biogenesis clinic in Coral Gables, Fla.

Joe Girardi said he expects Rodriguez to go through the pregame ceremonies that always are held before the opener.

“I haven’t asked but I don’t see why he wouldn’t necessarily do it,’’ the manager said. “I don’t know what the expectations are but he is part of our team and I am looking forward to seeing him.’’

Rodriguez was rehabbing the hip in New York while the Yankees were in Tampa for spring training and didn’t make an appearance. Other than a statement released to the press denying his involvement, he hasn’t commented on MLB’s investigation into Biogenesis, the shuttered anti-aging clinic.
