Gov. Cuomo is poised to extend New York’s top income-tax rate with no recommendations from a commission he set up to advise him on the controversial issue.
The Tax Reform and Fairness Commission — whose creation Cuomo announced more than a year before actually naming members — has met just twice.
“I know for a fact they [commission members] had no consultation” with Cuomo before he and lawmakers agreed this month to extend the 8.82 percent rate on seven-figure earners beyond 2014, said one source. “None of them knew about it.”
“Just look at the product that you’ve gotten so far — it’s nothing,” added an Albany Democratic insider involved with the commission.
