The agony of de-feet: Obama’s oval office gaffe

The Issue: A White House photo of President Obama kicking back, with his feet on the Resolute Desk.

***

I found the photo of President Obama laughing with his feet on the desk very distasteful and arrogant (“At the Feet of Power,” March 19).

While the king enjoys a laugh, the quality of life in America continues to deteriorate.

Our taxes are climbing. Unemployment remains very high. Energy costs are through the roof, and we will eventually have to pay the bill for our national debt.

It’s time for the king’s subjects to put their idolatry aside for a moment, take a deep breath and honestly ask themselves: Am I really better off and happier right now than I was four years ago?

The picture of Obama with his feet on the desk in the Oval Office shows that he has never been taught manners.

That desk is history and should be treated with respect. This is not the first time he has been photographed with his feet on furniture, and I’m sure it won’t be the last, but I think it is not very becoming for the president of the United States. Wen Browne

It was poetic to see “Palestinians Slam Bam” (March 19), describing the greeting Palestinian protesters are planning — specifically “to hold up their shoes, a sign of grave disrespect in the Middle East” — and the picture above, showing Obama with his feet planted firmly on the Resolute Desk, a gift to the United States from England’s Queen Victoria.

It is no surprise that Obama is comfortable disrespecting, desecrating and even violating the things Americans cherish.

After all, he treats our Constitution, Bill of Rights, US military, free-market capitalism and our most trusted allies with the same sneering contempt.
