Apple reveals ‘screaming fast’ iPad Air

Apple’s new iPad 5 will be faster and lighter, weighing nearly half a pound lighter than the iPad 4 — and operating up to eight times more quickly, Apple reps say.

The new “iPad Air” weighs just one pound — .4 pounds lighter than the previous generation — making it the lightest full-sized tablet in the world, Apple reps said on Tuesday.

“This is a screaming fast iPad,” said Apple representative Phil Schiller.

He added, “Look at it from the side. It’s just 7.5mm thin, 25% thinner than the previous device.”

The gadget comes complete with a thinner body, a 9.7-inch Retina display and a screen border — or bezel –that’s 43% smaller than previous iPads.

It features new A7 chip, which was also launched with the new iPhone 5s.

The news comes the same day Nokia announced its first tablet product ever, The Lumia 2520 , which runs on Windows and has a 6.7 mega pixel rear-facing camera for $499.
