‘Elementary’s” Sherlock Holmes spent this season in New York City — but he’ll be back on native soil for next season’s premiere.
CBS says it will shoot the second-season premiere of “Elementary” on location in in London.
In the episode, Sherlock (Jonny Lee Miller) is called back home to revisit an old case — confronting some ghosts from his past and taking his assistant, Joan Watson (Lucy Liu), with him to merry old England.
The series, which wraps its maiden season later this month, has been a solid hit for CBS, averaging about 13 million viewers.
On the show, Miller plays a modern-day Sherlock Holmes, who lives in Manhattan and works as a consultant for the NYPD.
Holmes’ past includes drug addiction, and, when the series premiered, Liu’s Watson — a former physician — was Holmes’ “sober companion,” keeping him out of trouble and from a possible relapse.
Her role has evolved over the season to where she’s now become Holmes’ crime-fighting assistant.
Shooting in London is “an opportunity to see Sherlock’s old stomping grounds and take a closer look at a life that, until now, we’ve only been able to glimpse through the lens of his recovery,” series executive producer Robert Doherty said in a statement.
“Watson’ll have to keep up with a Sherlock who is both more comfortable in his surroundings and even bolder in testing the limits of those around him.”
The series co-stars Aidan Quinn as Sherlock’s boss at the NYPD and Jon Michael Hill as an NYPD detective who often teams with Sherlock and Joan.
