Bx. dad shot dead after receiving mystery message — as daughter waited nearby

A devoted dad was killed early today inside a Bronx apartment building, while his little girl waited in a parked car only steps away, cops and relatives said.

Craig Brewington, 28, was shot once in the throat about 12:15 a.m. inside a Bronxwood apartment building, police said.

He was found under a first-floor stairwell and police couldn’t immediately find any witnesses to this Easter Day tragedy, officials said.

Brewington had been out to eat with his young daughter and a female friend before he asked for a ride to 2857 Barker Ave., according to heartbroken mom Renee Brewington.

Pals of the victim told Renee Brewington, 45, that he went to that building to collect money owed to him by a friend. He also had received a phone or text message shortly before asking for the ride to Barker Avenue, his mom said.

Craig Brewington’s female pal gave him that lift, and he went inside while they waited outside, Renee Brewington told The Post.

“He never came back out,” said the grieving mom of two and certified nursing assistant.

“They waited and waited. I don’t know who would want to do this to him.”

EMS pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

Craig Brewington, who had just enrolled in a job-training program, leaves behind his little girl Zoey who will celebrate her second birthday on April 14, the victim’s mom said.

Craig Brewington had his ups and downs, but he was a devoted dad, according to his mother.

“He was a very kind-hearted and loving person,” Renee Brewington said. “He was a great father to his daughter. He would give the shirt off of his back to his friends and family.”

No arrests have been made, and it was not immediately clear what sparked the deadly attack, cops said.

Police are asking witnesses and anyone with information to call (800) 577-TIPS.
