Tarnished boss quits Queens GOP post

Queens GOP power broker Vincent Tabone resigned his party leadership position yesterday a day after being charged with accepting bribes in the Malcolm Smith corruption scandal.

Tabone, who was a political adviser and company lawyer to mayoral candidate John Catsimatidis, informed Queens GOP chairman Phil Ragusa that he was relinquishing his party position as vice chairman.

The feds allege that Tabone and Bronx GOP chairman Jay Savino accepted bribes as a part of a scheme to deliver Republican support for Democrat Smith’s mayoral bid.

Catsimatidis fired Tabone from his $3,000-a-month campaign gig. He also suspended Tabone without pay from his $100,000 position as a lawyer with his firm.

Meanwhile, state GOP Chairman Ed Cox also demanded that Savino quit his leadership post.
