HERO
Shane Victorino quickly ensured he’ll be hated in The Bronx as much as the former Phillie was in Queens. Victorino went 2-for-6 with three RBIs in his first game with the Red Sox, which included a two-out, two-run single in the second inning to give Boston a 3-0 lead.
ZERO
The Yankees’ injury-plagued lineup performed as advertised, but ace CC Sabathia did not live up to his billing. Sabathia allowed four runs in the second inning and struggled throughout with control and velocity, giving up eight hits and four walks over five innings, while striking out five.
KEY PLAY
After back-to-back walks to Francisco Cervelli and Brett Gardner to start the bottom of the seventh inning, the Yankees brought the tying run to the plate. But consecutive strikeouts from Eduardo Nunez, Robinson Cano and Kevin Youkilis closed the book on a comeback.
QUOTE OF THE DAY
‘At the end it was ugly out there, on the field and off. I don’t blame them for heading home a little early.’
