The lost ‘Banksy’: Just-found art looks legit

Is this the secret work of Banksy?

Graffiti art of a barefoot boy painting in red letters, “Start a Ryot” on a Brooklyn wall bears the hallmarks of the elusive street artist, who spent a month tagging city buildings.

On Oct. 26 Banksy’s Web site posted a picture of a box truck’s rear door that was painted with similar red letters that read, “The grumpier you are, the more a–holes you meet.”

That truck was parked for a week in the same area of Sunset Park where the latest art was discovered on the side of a 60th Street building.

Delivery trucks and SUVs have been parking up on the sidewalk against the wall where the artwork was discovered, obstructing it from public view. It was not clear when the new painting was done or how long it had been on the wall.

A Banksy rep did not immediately respond to an e-mail seeking comment.

Building owner Leiby Fortgang said he thinks the graffiti has been on the wall at least a couple of weeks, which means it would have been created at the height of the Big Apple’s Banksy-mania.

“I haven’t cleaned it up yet,” Fortgang said. “I wasn’t sure if it was worth something.”

Regardless, Fortgang said he is not a Banksy fan.

“I’m not impressed, Fortgang said.
