‘Glee’ star Cory Monteith died from lethal combination of heroin and alcohol: coroner

“Glee” star Cory Monteith died from a deadly cocktail of heroin and booze, Canadian authorities said this afternoon, labeling his demise a “most sad and tragic accident.”

The British Columbia Coroners Services ruled that foul play had nothing to do with Monteith’s sudden death in Vancouver on Saturday.

“We do now have a cause of death in the tragic death of Cory Monteith and that cause of death was a mixed-drug toxicity and it involved heroin, primarily, and also involved alcohol,” said Barb McLintock, a spokeswoman for the BC Coroners Services.

An autopsy was performed on Monday and authorities accelerated the toxicology tests to come to today’s ruling.

“There’s absolutely nothing, at this point, no evidence, to suggest this is anything other than the most sad and tragic accident,” McLintock said.

With the fourth season of “Glee” in his rear-view mirror, the western Canadian native Monteith, 31, had been visiting friends in Vancouver.

“Mr. Monteith’s family is of course aware of the circumstances of his death,” McLintock said. “We do express our most heartfelt condolences to them and all of Mr. Monteith’ s friends, of whom we know we have a lot of in British Columbia.”

Monteith checked into the Fairmont Pacific Rim hotel in downtown Vancouver on July 6 and was due to check out Saturday. When he didn’t show up to the front desk, hotel staff went to his room and found the “Glee” actor.

Monteith was open about his past struggles with drugs and booze. The actor, who played singing quarterback Finn Hudson on the popular Fox show, did a rehab stint in April.

He was dating his “Glee” co-star Lea Michele, 26.
