‘Ray Donovan’ earns a second season

Ray
Donovan,” which shattered Showtime viewership records, will return for a second season.

The Sunday-night series, starring Liev Schreiber as an LA fixer-to-the-stars and Jon Voight as his wily father, will be back for Season 2 in 2014, Showtime announced yesterday.

The show premiered to 1.4 million viewers June 30 — a record for a Showtime series debut — and corralled over 6 million viewers that first week when other platforms (DVR, On Demand, Live + 7) were factored into the equation.

“Ray” was the first series in Showtime history to improve its numbers in its second episode (up 15 percent in viewership).

Last Sunday night’s episode averaged a solid 2.2 million viewers.

“ ‘Ray Donovan’ is on track to be our biggest season one show ever,” Showtime entertainment president David Nevins said in a statement. The series co-stars Elliott Gould as Ray’s mentor and Paula Malcomson as Ray’s wife, Abby.
