Sewage pipe bursts, flooding Golden Globes’ red carpet

The Golden Globes got off to a soggy start Sunday night.

Just hours before the parade of celebs arrived at the awards show, a sewage pipe burst and sprayed water out, ruining more than a fifth of the red carpet.

“A pipe has appeared to totally bust and there is water gushing literally everywhere in the position of where all of the international press – everyone has moved out of the way,” E! news corespondent Catt Sadler said during “E! Countdown to the Red Carpet.”

And red carpet host Ryan Seacrest tweeted:”Could be bad for long gowns #eredcarpet,” along with a snap of the soaked carpet.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, lights set off an alarm system at about noon that sprayed dirty water on cameras and the carpet. Photos show pieces of the fabric discolored and even peeling up in areas.

At around 4 p.m., Beverly Hills firemen arrived to clean up the mess. And when the limos rolled up at 6 p.m. for the red carpet pre-show, things seemed to be back to normal.
