We’ve really come a long way — or not — when a long-in-the-tooth sitcom adds a gay character to bolster ratings.

The aging CBS comedy in question is “Two and a Half Men,” which is entering its 11th season this fall.

Insiders confirmed that the gay character is female and is apparently the long-lost daughter of the late Charlie Harper, the womanizer once played by Charlie Sheen.

When the season opens, the young lady, whose name is Jenny, will have just moved from New York to LA.

The role has not been cast and is only recurring for now.

Series stars Ashton Kutcher and Jon Cryer will return this fall. Co-star Angus T. Jones, who embarrassed himself on video when he condemned the show last season, will only appear on a recurring basis.

Sheen, who now headlines the ratings-challenged FX sitcom, “Anger Management,” was fired from “Men” in 2011 after very publicly blasting show creator Chuck Lorre, among others.

His character, womanizing Charlie Harper, was killed off in the beginning of the next season.
