Cops questioning at least 2 in connection to East New York officer shooting

At least two people are being questioned about the East New York shooting that happened moments before a responding cop was struck by a bullet and wounded on the Fourth of July.

Police Officer Jamil Sarwar, 30, took a bullet to the thigh while he and several officers responded to an earlier report of a shooting at the Cypress Houses around 10:45 p.m., Thursday.

Cops have been scouring the neighborhood and questioning dozens of people in the area since then.

At least two suspects are being questioned about the earlier shooting, after cops executed warrants in the Cypress Hills Houses and Staten Island, police sources said.

Cops also seized two handguns from a man whose street name is “40,” Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said.

Cops are trying to figure out whether the shooters who intiatlly brought cops to the housing complex are at all connected with the shooting of the responding officer.

“We are trying to determine that by talking to people,” Kelly said. “We don’t believe that the officer was the intended target. There was actually two shooting incidents. The shot that we believe hit the officer may have come from the roof or inside the courtyard of the building.”
