U.S. Open leaving NBC for Fox

PITTSFORD — The U.S. Open is leaving NBC Sports for Fox Sports starting in 2015.

In a surprising announcement yesterday, the U.S. Golf Association said it has signed a multimedia agreement with the Fox network and Fox Sports 1 as the domestic partner for the U.S. Open and the rest of the USGA championships.

The deal is for 12 years and runs through 2026. The first U.S. Open for Fox will be from Chambers Bay outside Seattle.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

The U.S. Open had been televised by NBC Sports on the weekend, and ESPN over the first two rounds.

Under the agreement, Fox will deliver 146 hours of USGA championship golf. That includes the U.S. Women’s Open, U.S. Senior Open and amateur events.

Fox Sports 1 debuts on Aug. 17.
