The swinger lifestyle to be explored in new reality show

This isn’t your father’s Discovery Channel. At least we hope not.

A new Discovery Fit & Health show will follow four regular American married couples who lead very normal lives – except in the bedroom. “Secret Sex Lives: Swingers” will give an in-depth look into the lifestyle of people in committed relationships who make the consensual decision to sleep with others for recreational purposes.

The reality show will be set in Atlanta, which happens to have a bustling swinger scene. The complex nuances of these kinds of relationships will be explored, as will the psychology behind this way of life.

Swinging couples have a hard time keeping their ways from family and friends and that inner struggle will also be delved into.

Swingers account for 2 to 4 percent of married couples, according to Swinger Social Network. That means more than 2 million people in North America partake.

According to Discovery’s website, if couples decorate their yard with the colors pink and purple or use white landscaping rocks, they could be swingers. Body jewelry also could be an indicator. Thumb rings, toe rings, waist chains and a woman moving her wedding ring to her right hand are all signs. So is a yin-yang tattoo.

“Secret Sex Lives: Swingers” will premiere on Discovery Fit & Health on Sept. 7 at 10 p.m.
