‘Vikings’ will remake History

The “Vikings” will live again to pillage and plunder.

History yesterday renewed its first-ever scripted series for a second season of 10 episodes.

Season 2 will begin production this summer and will air sometime next year.

“Vikings,” which premiered last month, is averaging 5 million viewers — solid numbers for a cable series but somewhat disappointing considering its lead-in, “The Bible,” averaged over 10 million viewers during its six-week Sunday-night (its finale aired on Easter Sunday).

Four more episodes of “Vikings” remain until it wraps its season at 10 p.m. on April 28.

The series stars Travis Fimmel as Ragnar Lothbrok and Gabriel Byrne as his local chieftain, Earl Haraldson. Katheryn Winnick and Jessalyn Gilsig co-star.

The series was created by Michael Hirst (“The Tudors”).
