A spectacular top-floor blaze in the Bronx this morning put dozens of people out of their homes.

Flames ripped through two apartments on the sixth floor and one on the fifth floor of the building on Cedar Avenue near Landing Road in University Heights.

Metropolitan Opera soloist Andrey Namzer, 30, evacuated the building after he said he looked out his window and saw shadows of smoke.

“I heard glass being smashed and falling to the ground,” he said.

Deli worker Emilio Baltazar, 32, was coming home when he saw smoke pouring out of the building. He was relieved to see his wife and children outside, and ran inside to see if anyone needed help.

“The smoke was so thick I couldn’t even see,” he said. “It was very scary.”

None of the building’s residents were injured, but six firefighters were treated for minor burns.

It took 150 firefighters to extinguish the flames, which were out by 11:30 a.m. Fire marshals are investigating the cause of the blaze.
