NYPD Daily Blotter

Brooklyn

It makes you wonder who the real animals are.

Alex Dykes, 49, was arrested Wednesday in his Flatbush home and charged with attacking his 1-year-old Shih Tzu, Bentley, so viciously that the poor pup suffered a brain hemorrhage, a skull fracture and a broken jaw, according to the ASPCA.

Bentley was placed with a foster family committed to helping him recover.

Then there’s Venus Laventure, 50, of East New York. She was arrested Feb. 25 and charged with abandoning her Chihuahua, Vampiro, at a pet shop, the ASPCA said.

Laventure had adopted the healthy puppy in 2006 from Animal Care and Control, but allegedly so neglected him that he was found blind, emaciated and dehydrated.

He has since recovered as much as possible, and is up for adoption.

Dykes and Laventure were officially charged with animal cruelty.

Not to be denied, he tried a different medical office on 63rd Drive minutes later, this time breaking in, again through the roof, cops said.

Finally, at about 1 a.m. the next day, March 30, he slipped through a skylight down into a diner on Austin Street and tried but failed to take money out of a register, police said.

The suspect was described as being in his early 20s and approximately 5-foot-8.
