‘Trayvon’ cop fired

A Florida cop who showed up for weapon training carrying two paper silhouettes of slain 16-year-old Trayvon Martin has been fired, authorities said.

Port Canaveral Police Sgt. Ron King stunned superiors when he thought it a good idea to take the images to a training exercise at a community college April 4.

John Walsh, interim chief of the Port Canaveral police, issued an apology and said, “Whether [King’s] act is one of hatred or stupidity, neither is tolerable.”

A lawyer for Martin’s parents agreed, saying: “Such a deliberate and depraved indifference to this grieving family is unacceptable.”

The trial of neighborhood-watch captain George Zimmerman in Martin’s death is scheduled for June. Last week, Zimmerman’s mother said that “the justice system failed us as Americans” when her son was arrested. Martin’s family responded that “the arrest of an admitted killer . . . is due process.”
